WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating and is a common condition affecting both men and women and can cause sufferers a great deal of embarrassment.
There are two types of hyperhidrosis. The majority of patients suffer from Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis.
Primary hyperhidrosis has no known cause. There are no underlying medical problems and it is not a side effect of medications. It affects particular parts of the body most commonly the hands, feet underarms or the face/head and usually affects both sides. Many patients have more than one part of the body affected. It usually begins in childhood or adolescence and sometimes runs in families.
Your may have primary hyperhydrosis if you:
Hyperhydrosis secondary to medical conditions (hyperthyroidism, menopause etc) may not respond to treatment.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
Although Botox® is commonly known for its affect in reducing wrinkles it has a well established medical application for its ability to block the signal from the nerve endings to the skins sweat glands.
WHAT DOES TREATMENT INVOLVE?
Treatment is carried out using a fine needle in the underarm area - targeting the sweat glands directly.
Treatment typically requires 20 injections per armpit in a single treatment session, although this seems daunting most clients find the treatment to be more comfortable than expected. And takes less than 30 mins.
The treatment is virtually painless and there is no recovery time required. It is very popular to have treatment during the day so you can get on with your day.
HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT LAST?
Results take around 10-14 days to fully develop with results that last 4-6 months. When effective treatment can reduce underarm sweating by 70-90%.
What are the risks?
Following treatment, you will be provided with verbal and written aftercare instructions to minimise your risk of side effects. This is a very safe procedure -the amount of Botox® used per injection is extremely minimal. There is no downtime and so you can resume your daily activities immediately.
If they were to occur they are not permanent and may include:
